K. Kavitha Launches “Leader” Initiative to Empower Youth, Women & BCs in Telangana Politics

A Bold Step for Inclusive Politics

In a landmark political development, BRS MLC K. Kavitha launched the “Leader” initiative on June 16, 2025. This unique program aims to identify, mentor, and empower youth and women, especially from the Backward Classes (BCs), to enter active politics and administrative roles.

Kavitha, the daughter of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and a prominent voice in state politics, announced the initiative at a packed auditorium in Hyderabad.

“This isn’t just a training camp. It’s a movement toward responsible, socially conscious leadership,” she said.

What Is the “Leader” Program?

“Leader” is a political training and mentorship platform. It offers structured modules in:

  • Policy-making and governance
  • Constitution and democratic rights
  • Grassroots mobilization
  • Public speaking and digital campaigning
  • Real-time exposure to administration

The program is open to all, but it prioritizes applicants from BC communities, women, and first-generation political aspirants.

42% BC Reservation Demand Reinforced

She also reignited the long-standing demand for 42% BC reservation in local body elections, matching the proportion of BCs in Telangana’s population.

“Without fair representation, there is no real democracy,” she declared, urging the state government to take legislative action.

Public & Political Reactions

The launch was met with praise from civil society groups, students, and social justice activists. Many lauded the effort as a “grassroots democratization initiative.”

However, opposition leaders termed the move as “strategic populism” ahead of municipal and Panchayat elections.

The “Leader” initiative is expected to begin its first training batch in July 2025, with 500+ youth already applying online within hours of launch. Kavitha’s team hinted at district-level outreach and statewide political bootcamps in the coming months.

In an age of divisive politics and elite leadership, her “Leader” is a refreshing, reform-driven approach aimed at empowering the very foundation of democracy—the people. With a focus on social justice, representation, and skill-building, this initiative could reshape Telangana’s political landscape in the years to come.
