Protect Temple Lands:

In a bold political move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana has sounded the alarm over illegal encroachments on temple lands across the state and Protect Temple Lands. BJP Telangana President N. Ramchander Rao held a press briefing on July 10, warning that the party would launch massive statewide agitations if the state government fails to act swiftly.

BJP Demands 4 Immediate Government Action

In his address, N. Ramchander Rao urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to:

  • Appoint a Special Task Force for temple land protection
  • Implement Geo-fencing and land surveys under the Dharani portal
  • Initiate legal proceedings against illegal occupants
  • Increase transparency through a public temple land database

“We are not against development. But it cannot come at the cost of destroying our sacred heritage,” Rao emphasized.

Impact on Devotees and Temple Revenues

The encroachment of temple lands not only affects religious sentiment but also hits temple income and welfare programs. Many temples use land-generated revenue to fund annadanams (free meals), festivals, and community services.

With land shrinking, rural temples struggle to survive, let alone provide services to devotees.

Public response to temple land encroachment in Telangana

In response to growing public outrage, the BJP has announced plans to hold:

  • District-level rallies outside Revenue and Endowments offices
  • A “Save Temple Lands” Maha Sabha in Hyderabad in August
  • Legal support for whistleblowers and RTI activists

The party has urged devotees, social activists, and dharmic organizations to join hands in protecting temple heritage.

The demand to protect temple lands is emerging as a major political and religious issue in Telangana. With elections ahead and public sentiment high, the government is under pressure to deliver transparency, legal clarity, and accountability.
