Hyderabad | June 23, 2025: In a major crackdown on corruption within municipal operations, the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested a Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Assistant Engineer (AE) in Amberpet while accepting a bribe from a contractor. The official has been identified as T. Manisha, serving as an Assistant Engineer in the Golnaka Circle, Amberpet division of GHMC.
According to ACB officials, the accused AE demanded a ₹15,000 bribe from a private contractor for processing his pending work bills. The contractor, reluctant to pay the illegal gratification, approached the ACB, following which a trap was set.
- The ACB recovered ₹10,000 in marked currency notes from Manisha during the operation.
- It was revealed that she had already collected ₹5,000 from the contractor earlier as part of the total bribe.
- Chemical tests confirmed the presence of bribe traces on her hands, establishing her involvement.
The ACB has arrested T. Manisha and produced her before the court. She has been remanded to judicial custody, and further investigations are underway to ascertain if more officials or contractors are linked to similar malpractices within GHMC.
The Telangana ACB has been actively cracking down on corruption among government employees. This latest case highlights the persistent challenge of ensuring transparency and accountability within urban civic bodies like GHMC.
Citizens and activists have lauded the ACB for its swift action, calling for continued vigilance to root out corruption from municipal departments that directly impact public services and infrastructure projects.
