What is Bonalu?
Bonalu is a traditional Hindu festival celebrated in Telangana, especially in Hyderabad, to honor Goddess Mahankali. Devotees offer cooked rice, jaggery, curd, and neem leaves in decorated pots called Bonam to fulfill their vows and seek blessings during the month of Ashada Masam (July–August).
📍 Why Lal Darwaza is the Heart of Bonalu
The Lal Darwaza Mahankali Temple in Hyderabad is one of the most historic and revered locations for Bonalu. Initiated over 100 years ago by Maharaja Kishen Pershad, the then Prime Minister of the Nizam, it has since become a cultural epicenter of the festival.
Fun Fact: The celebrations at Lal Darwaza are known for their royal grandeur, attracting lakhs of devotees every year.
