Big Boost to Telangana Infrastructure: New Airport Approved for Adilabad District | 1500 Acres Project Cleared by Air Force

Adilabad, Telangana | July 25, 2025 – In a major step towards enhancing regional air connectivity, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has officially given its nod for a new greenfield airport project in Adilabad district, Telangana. The proposed facility will be developed across 1,500 acres, making it one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the northern part of the state.

Key Highlights:

  • Approval Authority: Indian Air Force (IAF)
  • Location: Near Adilabad town, Telangana
  • Total Land Area: 1,500 acres
  • Project Type: Greenfield airport
  • Strategic Purpose: Boost tourism, economic development, and ease air traffic in northern Telangana

This marks the second major airport initiative under the Telangana government’s “Airgrid Development Plan”, following an earlier aviation clearance for Warangal Airport. With the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government aiming to decentralize economic activity and improve access to interior regions, the airport is expected to be a game-changer for Adilabad, Nirmal, and Komaram Bheem-Asifabad districts.

Current Status:

According to official sources, the IAF conducted a detailed airspace and radar interference analysis and found no technical objections to the proposed location. The state government is now preparing to initiate:

  • Environmental clearance
  • Feasibility studies
  • Land acquisition
  • Public consultations

Regional Development Impact:

The proposed airport is expected to:

  • Attract industrial investment in agro-processing, cotton, and forest-based sectors
  • Boost tourism to nearby attractions like Kala Ashram, Basar Saraswati Temple, and Kuntala Waterfalls
  • Create thousands of jobs during the construction and operational phases
  • Integrate with National Highway 44, improving surface transport

Government Remarks:

A senior official from the Telangana Infrastructure Department stated:

“This airport aligns with the state’s goal of equitable development. Adilabad’s connectivity bottleneck has long delayed its growth. With air connectivity, we expect a new phase of economic momentum.”

What’s Next?

The Telangana government is expected to submit the Detailed Project Report (DPR) by mid-August, after which civil aviation clearances will be sought from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
