Cancer Cases Increasing in Telangana
According to health officials, Telangana witnesses approximately 50,000 to 55,000 new cancer cases every year, with many patients diagnosed in advanced stages due to delayed detection and lack of specialized healthcare facilities in rural areas.
Minister Rajanarasimha emphasized that strengthening cancer care infrastructure is a critical step toward addressing these challenges.
What the Government Plans to Do
- District-Level Cancer Centres: Every teaching hospital across Telangana will house a dedicated cancer care centre equipped with diagnostic and treatment facilities.
- Focus on Early Detection: The program prioritizes early screening, especially for breast, cervical, and oral cancers, which are among the most common in the state.
- Specialist Recruitment: The government will appoint oncology specialists and support staff to manage these centres.
